Cally and I went to see Peaches before Thanksgiving and it was amazing.
From the interesting crowd, delighful people watching to the star herself
we had a wonderful time. So glad we went and what a treat of a show!

Peaches spent much of the evening crawling, surfing and stepping all over
the crowd- pretty impressive indeed.

p.s. Still not sure what to think of Amanda Blank the opener. Too much taken from
Karen O to really take her seriously….

Grandpa Dale and his brother John.

The middle of November always brings together my family for the celebration
of all of us and my Grandpa. Today would have been my Grandpa Dale’s 81st
birthday and he still missed very much after his battle with cancer ended in March.
This time last year we were all at Fort Worden to celebrate and be together, seems
like so much longer ago. Tonight we’ll have dinner at Grandma Norma’s to celebrate
his life and continue these traditions.

There are some questions you just have to answer “yes” when asked:

  • Do you want to go to Vegas?
  • Does this make me look pretty?
  • Do you want to meet Hulk Hogan?

Yeah, you read that right - Hulk Hogan. I don’t know about you, but I grew up a Hulkamaniac. I remember my parent’s moving a tv into a bedroom Todd and I shared so we could watch Saturday Night’s Main Event. Or what about when the Earthquake smashed Hulk Hogan’s ribs on the Brother Love Show? I’m pretty sure I wrote Hulk a get-well card.

So when Mary asked if I wanted to go to a Hulk Hogan book signing at Third Place Books, I had to say yes.

A crowd of a few hundred people lined up throughout the aisles (much to the dismay of everyday book shoppers). We probably waited about an hour and a half for our two minutes with Hulk, but it was totally worth it. Introduced myself while Mary congratulated him on his new book (My Life Outside the Ring
) and a Third Place Book employee snapped some pictures.

Jimmy Hart was there as well (though no pictures of him).

Got to say, Hulk looks pretty good for 56. Then again, I heard he is going back into the ring with TNA Wrestling, so I’m sure he needs to be in good shape.

Here are some pics from the event:

Trevor and I were lucky enough to go to my 10 Year High School Reunion from Shorewood High School in Shoreline, WA on Saturday night. Although the night started out a little slow, it turned out to be very fun and almost entertianing. The biggest surprise I had was how few people recognized me! Guess the brown hair really threw some people for a loop.

Trevor and I showed up at 5:30pm thinking that we would be fashionably late. How sadly we were mistaken when we realized we were the second ones to arrive. It probably wasn’t until 7 o’clock that the night really got underway and Club Hollywood really got going. Tons of old faces and new ones as well and very good to catch up and chat. Funny how so many people seem to still be in the area and we never seem to run into them.

Enjoyed eating dinner with Beth Hodson, Michelle (Webb) Sciascia, Brynn (Grimley) Graham and her husband Jeff….even though the entire meal was full of meat and seafood, leaving Trevor and I with sad dinner salads. There were door prizes, drama, a group photo and some dirty dancing that happened later in the night but all in all an eventful night. Great to see Bennett, Karissa, Katie Brown and finally meet Elliott’s wife, Angela. As the night went on more people that Trevor knew arrived and he had more people to chat with and have fun.

All in all, I think it was a great experience. Kinda weird seing gals pregant with their second child, way to go Camiguin, but overall exciting and fun. Can’t wait to see what unfolds at our 20 year Reunion but I’m sure most of us will be talking about the 10 year for a while!

Most of the time people complain about companies. Crappy customer service, lines are too long, blah, blah blah. Hey, I do it myself.

I thought I would change things up a little bit and mention two companies that are awesome.

  1. Band of Outsiders
  2. Netflix

First up: Band of Outsiders. This company makes great clothes, but that isn’t why they are awesome. I lost a button on one of my shirts and a replacement button was impossible come to by. I emailed the company and got a reply back in minutes asking for my address. Once I sent them back my address they said they would be mailing me out replacement buttons that day. Expecting an envelope with a few buttons, I was pleasantly surprised to get a full pouch of buttons.

Onto Netflix. A company who provides a service I never felt I needed…until I bought a Blu-ray player that was Netflix enabled. Free trail? Sure, why not?

It didn’t take Mary and I long to get hooked. It also didn’t take Netflix long to gain long-time customers. I had rented the awesomely bad movie Crank 2 and noticed it skipped once during the movie. No biggie - happens with Blu-ray players sometimes (that what firmware updates are for, right?). About a day later I get an email from Netflix saying they know Crank 2 doesn’t work with some Blu-ray players, so they are giving me a bonus rental.

The story doesn’t end there. A movie we had up next in our queue wasn’t available from the Tacoma shipping facility. So while the movie came from another facility, they sent out our next movie so we had something to watch while we waited.

So that’s it - just wanted to break the normal “Company X SUCKS!!!” talk with two companies that are awesome.

Back in August Mary had picked up some tickets for The English Beat (along with a sweet Ryan Adams poster) for our one-year anniversary (the paper anniversary). At the time, October 10th seemed really far out. Now let’s fast forward to last Friday…

It’s true that Dave Wakeling is the only original member of the band on this tour, but that doesn’t mean the band he is playing with doesn’t know how to play some great 2 Tone Ska.

This was one of the most fun shows I have been to in a while for two reasons:

  1. The band was awesomely entertaining
  2. It gave Mary and me a glimpse of what a Saturday night out with a sitter at home is like

For the first part: If you aren’t a fan of the English Beat, I guarantee you still would have known at least half of the songs they played. And with all the energy Dave and the band were putting into the songs, you would have no idea that he had been playing some of them for nearly 30 years.

A big surprise of the night came when Dave brought out a guest on stage: Lynval Golding from the Specials (who now lives in Seattle).

Between the English Beat songs, the General Public songs, and the cover (of a cover) of a Specials song - the whole crowd was dancing and skanking for the entire two-hour set.

On to part two, the sitter at home section. Mirror in the Bathroom came out in 1980. Let’s say you were 20 years old - that would put you at 49 today. Fans at this show were in the range of 40 - 50. Did this stop them from drinking like they did back in the 80s when they saw the English Beat? Not at all. We evened witness a near 40-something fight and a wife on her husbands shoulders showing a little more skin than she probably wanted to.

To wrap this all up, here’s Dave Wakeling and Ranking Roger as General Public:

Wow, it’s been a long, fun summer and it finally came to and end with a bang
at Danny and Ashley’s wedding. It had been a long enjoyment of parties, Vegas
celebrations and more so we were all more than happy to see these two kids
tie the knot on September 18th. Loved the Lake Union Cafe and what a beautiful
wedding to unite these two. Couldn’t be happier for them and glad to see them join the “Old Married Club!”
Oh, we made Hula Hula the post party, hence the karaoke pics. Trevor turned 29 at midnight so the celebration continued.
